HOW TO START BLOGGING

Hi, I have followed the steps and mostly found it very straightforward, however have come across a snag! I set up my domain name successfully, and installed wordpress. But at the point where you need to log in with your admin login after installing wordpress, it tells me that the webpage is not available. I’ve tried clicking on the link from the email too but to no avail. I’m stuck and not sure what to do from here, I’ve paid money and am worried that it’s not going to work! Thank you for any help you can be!

Limit #3: you can’t use any of the thousands of amazing plugins and themes available to a self-hosted blog. After making a blog, plugins help you extend the functionality of the blog, the same way apps extend the functionality of a phone. Imagine having a phone without being able to install and use apps. Is it cool to live in a house you’re prohibited from painting and designing? If it’s not, then it sucks to have a blog without being able to use a theme on it.

IMPORTANT! As soon as you change your name servers, your domain will bring visitors to this new site. Therefore, if you are currently using your domain on another site, do not change your name servers until your new site is set up and ready to go. In the meantime, you can still access your new WordPress blog via a temporary URL. You may have received one in your welcome email from Bluehost. If you didn’t, simply call them and let them know you need a temporary URL for your new site.

Hi Yahya, By default – it has “index.html” placed in your root domain folder. If you overwrite it – it’ll disappear and be replaced with the WordPress index file. So basically, you just need to overwrite it. Jess

Here’s my suggestion: Before you start a blog, make sure you have some ideas what to write about. If you don’t have any – think about your hobbies or things you’re passionate about. This helped me to find my niche/topic for my blog. Awesome guide, by the way.

In theory, you can do that. But later you’d need to migrate/transfer your content from WordPress to HostGator and this can be pretty painful for someone who is not tech savvy. You could also upgrade directly from WordPress, but it’s 4x times more costly than using a hosting provider.

Hi Ramsay, As always great post, essential guide to consider for starting a new blog! I started my blogging journey on blogger, but self-hosted WordPress is best to start with! WordPress is better than blogger. . . And talking about Personal Branding; there is no doubt it works great! thanks!

Domain name – This will be your personal blog address where people find you over and over again. For example Google’s Domain is www.Google.com. Your new blog domain name will be www.YourBlogName.com, except you’ll choose what’s going to be behind YourNewBlog. The cost of a domain name is usually $10/year, but if you follow this guide all the way, I’ll show you how to get one for much cheaper.

Hi Karen, Indeed an amazing post, well no doubt WordPress is spectacular Content Management System. Which help us to create stunning websites and blog instantly. Your step by step guidance make it easy for every one to go through. Thanks for fantastic share

By the way, the images you see here may vary slightly from the ones you see on your screen. This is because Bluehost never stops making site improvements. You might even catch them in a sale! Don’t worry, the general process is the same.

The best is to choose a niche you’re passionate about. Blogging is to be enjoyed. You know, there’s fulfillment in connecting with others and providing helpful information. You’ll experience this joy, and be able to do it for long, if you’re passionate about what you blog about.

Hi Karen, thanks for this, has been really helpful. However, like someone else commented before, I’m having some trouble after installing WordPress. I’m getting this message “The server at whexperience.com can’t be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website’s name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.” You know how can I fix this issue? Thanks !

This article was super helpful and on point, thank you so much. I’m reading all the other articles as well, you’re very insightful and encouraging. Thanks!!! Shay

Now I know a ton about them, and my blog’s doing pretty well – I receive more than 300,000 unique visitors per month which makes me consider myself someone you could listen to and learn from when it comes to building your own blog. I’m not some sort of Guru, but I certainly do know the basics.

I create a blog a month ago, now have 39 articles but the visitors less than 10/day. Is it normal for new blog? By the way I’m using free blog (blogspot) with custom domain. Is it because I’m using free blog? Or there are something wrong about the SEO? I’m so confused right now.. Anyway this is a great article, thank you

If the name you want isn’t available, HostGator will show you some alternatives that are similar – or you can punch in a new name and try again. I’d suggest you to use something that ends with .com, .net or .org

And that’s it! I’m more than confident that your initial blog set up should now be finished and ready to go, and all that should have been really damn easy (unlike my first time, lucky you!). If you are having any problems installing WordPress on iPage then this guide may help.

wikiHow Contributor You can get around this bug by trying again in a new "incognito" or "private" browser window, or on a different device. If you have created many blogs on one account or one device, you might need to wait until tomorrow. Flag as duplicate Thanks! Yes No Not Helpful 5 Helpful 11

Over the years, I’ve learnt a lot about blogging and I’ve set up many successful blogs for myself. I’ve also showed thousands of people how to create a blog of their own, by themselves. I know what best practices to use and the mistakes to avoid.

You should start by selecting your plan. If this is your very first one, you should go with the basic one – at least until you explore your options. The one called plus should be able to cover all your needs once you get your blog going, and you should consider the pro version once your popularity skyrockets.
